Buckingham Terrace Medical Practice – Advice for Travellers.

Pre-travel advice and immunization is carried out by our practice nurses, please make an appointment with the nurse for initial travel advice. Pre-travel planning is not solely about vaccines and tablets. Advice regarding everyday precautions and country-specific recommendations will be given during a travel health consultation to minimise health risks associated with travel.

For overseas travel that will last more than one month it is best to see the practice nurse for travel advice at least 6 weeks before travel. For shorter trips visit at least 3 weeks before travel. Some courses of vaccine take 3-4 weeks to complete. In general, the normal immune response takes approximately 2 weeks to work. This means protection from an infection will not occur immediately after immunization. You should be aware that at peak travel times appointments may be fully booked so early booking is strongly advised.

Please complete the Travel Risk Assessment Form and bring it with you to your appointment, this Adobe Reader - logo will help the nurse discuss which vaccines /anti-malarials are right for you. Click here to download the travel risk assessment form.

To download, read and print a PDF version of the form you'll need Adobe Acrobat® Reader. If you haven't already got this then you can download it from the Adobe website by clicking here.
Adobe Acrobat® Reader™ is free, and freely distributable, software that lets you view and print Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files.
