This practice participates in the nGMS contract scheme and provides a full range of chronic disease management measures. These are provided by the doctors, practice nurses, health visitors and community midwives. Please contact the receptionists who will advise you about the correct appointment.

Midwife Clincs are run in the Western Infirmary. To make an appointment please telephone Queen Mother's Hospital on 232 9470. The midwife also visit new mothers at home after the birth of the baby

The Usual Timetable For Immunisations

When to immunise
Disease protected against Vaccine given
2 months old Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), polio and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). Pneumococcal infection DTaP/IPV/HiB and pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV)
3 months old Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, Haemophilus influenza type b (Hib), meningococcal C (MenC) DTaP/IPV/Hib and MenC
4 months old Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), meningococcal C (MenC). Pneumococcal infection DTaP/IPV/Hib, MenC and PCV
Around 12 months Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and meningococcal C (MenC) Hib/MenC
Around 13 months Measles, mumps and rubella (German measles) Pneumococcal infection MMR and PCV
3 years 4 months to 5 years old Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis and polio. Measles, mumps and rubella DTaP/IPV or dtaP/IPV and MMR
13 to 18 years old Tetanus, diphtheria and polio. Td/IPV

MMR (2ND DOSE): IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE RECEIVED ONLY ONE MMR IT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE TO HAVE A 2ND DOSE. PLEASE ASK AT RECEPTION.

Travel Advice And Vaccination

The practice nurses have expertise in travel medicine. They will offer advice on healthy travelling and arrange immunisation and malaria prevention where appropriate. There may be a charge for some of these and you may need to go to a special centre for certain vaccinations. We are a yellow fever centre.

Family Planning Services

All the doctors and practice nurses are fully qualified in family planning. We offer a range of services and appointments can be made in normal surgery hours.

Cervical Smears

Women between the ages of 20 and 60 are invited by letter for a cervical smear test three-yearly as part of the national screening programme. The test is normally performed by the practice nurses.

Private Medical Examinations

Medical examinations for special purposes such as pre-employment, fitness to travel, elderly drivers, fitness to undertake sports etc will be provided by special appointment. There will be a charge for this service, so please ask the receptionist beforehand.
